Former Police officer charged after gun accidentally discharged

A former Mansfield Police officer has been charged with negligent assault, after his gun accidentally discharged in a barber shop last month. RichlandSource.com says the incident report states, 68 year old Jan Wendling, who is a retired Police officer, was discussing firearms and when he removed it from its holster, one round discharged and caused damage, along with injuries. One man was taken to the hospitals with injuries to his hand and neck. Wendling is facing a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail, according to the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.
