Shelby Football Coach Erik Will Stepping Down

Erik Will has announced he is stepping down as the head football coach at Shelby.

Will said " I have been coaching for the better part of 2 decades and I am a fairly young guy but I am going enjoy time with my wife and two daughters. Every coach has a pulse on their program and I feel the kids may need to hear a new voice. I need a mental break from head coaching administrative responsibilities as well as trying to meet parent/community expectations. To be honest I am mentally and emotionally fatigued from running a 12 month program. Every person is different... I have reached my limit. The program and players will benefit from me stepping away."

Will in 6 years coaching the Whippets had a record of 37 -30 and reached the playoffs in two seasons. Shelby reached the Regional Final in 2016 and made the schools first ever State Final Four appearance in 2017 under Will.

Will also spoke about his time coaching in his hometown of Shelby. "Coaching in Shelby has been a really rewarding experience. The administration has been fantastic and I have coached with great men that care deeply about their players. Coaching is great because it opens up doors to build relationships with young men. I will always respect the young men that have allowed me to work with them over the last 6 years here at Shelby."
