FREE ARTS INTEGRATION PROF. DEV. FOR TEACHERS

The Mansfield Partners in Education Team, comprised of the Renaissance Performing Arts Association, the Mansfield Art Center, and Mansfield City Schools, will host a two-day professional development workshop on arts integration for elementary and intermediate educators and administrators on August 2-3, 2018 at the Mansfield Art Center. The registration fee of $125 for the workshop has been covered for all participants through the generous support of the Ohio Arts Council, Charles P. Hahn, CFP and the Key Bank Foundation.

Kennedy Center teaching artist Melanie Rick will lead the workshop, entitled “Reading Portraits as Biographies: Observe. Infer, Inquire.” The workshop will examine ways to teach students to view portraits as a visual text filled with meaningful symbolism in order to make the study of people and biographies more engaging. Reading portraits helps students activate and build background knowledge of, construct understanding of, and reflect on historical and literary figures across the curriculum. Primary grade workshops will be presented in the morning for kindergarten through 2nd grade teachers, with intermediate grade workshops in the afternoon for 3rd-8th grade teachers. Full schedule and registration is available at 2018summerarts.eventbrite.com.

Contact hour verification for CEUs are available for participants. For more information, call 419-522-2726 ext. 251 or email chelsie@mansfieldtickets.com.
