Ex-Trump Aide Mocks Immigrant Child With Down Syndrome

Former Donald Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowksi appeared to mock a young 10-year-old migrant girl with Down's syndrome in an appearance on The Story With Martha MacCallum that has drawn heavy criticism from people online.

During the segment, which aired Tuesday on Fox News, Zac Petkanas, a Democratic strategist brought up a story told by Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray to the Wall Street Journal, about a young girl who had been separated from her mother after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

"I read today about a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage," Zac Petkanas, a Democratic strategist said.

"Womp, womp," Lewandowski replied.

"Did you just say 'Womp, womp' to a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome being separated from her mother?" Petkanas replied, sounding incredulous. "How dare you? How absolutely dare you, sir? How dare you?"

Following the show, Petkanas tweeted a clip of the exchange, calling it 'surreal.'

Former Fox News personality Megyn Kelly was among the many people who spoke out against Lewandowski's comments online.

There is no low to which this coward Corey Lewandowski won’t sink. This man should not be afforded a national platform to spew his hate.

"This is so horrible, even by Lewandowski standards," Meghan McCain wrote in a tweet.

For his part, Lewandowski appeared to remain unapologetic for his comments when he was asked about it during an appearance on Fox News Wednesday morning.

"An apology? I owe an apology to the children whose parents are putting them in a position that is forcing them to be separated. We owe an apology to Jamiel Shaw and Brian Terry and Kate Steinle's family who have allowed those individuals to be killed by illegal aliens," Lewandowski said. "The American people owe an apology to those people. When you cross the border illegally, you have committed a crime and there is accountability for committing crimes and there should be."

Lewandowski served as Trump's campaign manager for a year and a half. Most recently, he joined Vice President Mike Pence's political action committee. He was fired from the Trump campaign after an alleged physical altercation with a reporter.
