UH Samaritan Offers Free Tobacco Cessation Program

University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center is offering free tobacco cessation sessions for smokers and people who chew, as well as free community group sessions. The next eight-week Freedom From Smoking community session begins June 16 and runs through July 28. Freedom From Smoking classes are held once a week from 10 a.m. to noon in the East Tower Conference room at the hospital. Each class in the session is free and over-the-counter nicotine replacement products are available at a discounted price through UH Samaritan Pharmacy. Participants should contact their primary care provider if they would like a prescription nicotine replacement. Appointments for the one-on-one tobacco cessation option are available Monday through Thursday, however, accommodations can be made for work schedules. Call 419-207-2303 to sign up for the one-on-one sessions or the Freedom From Smoking community session.  The class instructor has successfully quit smoking and has unique insight to help others on their tobacco cessation journey. Additional features of the tobacco cessation program at UH Samaritan include: tobacco use assessment; personalized plan with educational material; support group; support buddy; relapse plan; and cessation resources.
