Crawford County Double Fatal Traffic Crash

The Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatality traffic crash that occurred at approximately 0719 hours this morning in Lykens Township at the intersection of State Route 103 and Ross Road in Crawford County.

Troopers report that Clifford C. Alt, 55 of Tiro, Ohio was operating a 1998 Freightliner dump truck traveling westbound on State Route 103 near milepost 7, when he struck a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling northbound on Ross Road that failed to yield to a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 103. The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was identified as Tonya S. Laferty, 43 of Bucyrus, Ohio. The front seat passenger in the Trailblazer was identified as Kisten L. Singer, 40 of Bucyrus, Ohio

Upon arrival, Troopers found the Chevrolet Trailblazer partially pinned underneath the Freightliner dump truck with both female occupants entrapped. Both occupants were found to be unresponsive and had to be freed with the Jaws of Life.  The driver, Tonya S. Laferty and passenger, Kisten L. Singer were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Crawford County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Freightliner dump truck, Clifford C. Alt. was airlifted to Grant Medical Center for incapacitating injuries.

Alcohol or narcotics were not determined to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lykens Twp. Fire/Rescue, Chatfield Twp. Fire/Rescue, Life Support Team EMS, Crawford County E.M.A., Crawford County O.D.O.T., Med-Flight and Knecht’s Towing.
