Ashland University Junior GLIAC Pitcher of the Week

Ashland University junior right-hander Chris Slavik was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday (May 7) morning.

Slavik became the third AU pitcher this season to win the award, following sophomore Chance Hitchcock (March 12) and junior Devin Peters (April 23).

The Powell, Ohio native was excellent in three relief outings last week, helping the Eagles to a 4-1 record. Overall, he pitched in three games, going 2-0 with a save. He did not allow a run over 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven and allowing only two hits.

Slavik earned the win in a 13-12 win over No. 17 Ohio Dominican last Wednesday, pitching the final two innings as the Eagles rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth. He struck out four in that outing and allowed just one hit.

Slavik threw 2 2/3 innings in Saturday's doubleheader finale against Tiffin to pick up his second save of the season. In Sunday's twinbill opener, he retired two Dragons on just four pitches and the Eagles rallied for a 6-5 win in the bottom of the seventh.

For the season, Slavik has a 3.91 ERA across 46 innings with 50 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .222 off him. He is 3-1 with two saves.

The Eagles (30-18) earned the No. 3 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will play No. 4 seed Wayne State in the opening round on Thursday (May 10) at 6 p.m. in Detroit.
