Ashland University junior right-hander Devin Peters has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week the league office announced on Monday (April 23) afternoon.
Peters was dominant in a pair of outings last week, going 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA. He struck out 14 batters and did not issue a walk over 11 innings.
In an 18-3 victory over Findlay last Wednesday, Peters worked five innings and gave up just one run while striking out seven to earn the win. He needed just 57 pitches in the outing.
The transfer from Kankakee Community College followed that up with a terrific start against Purdue Northwest on Saturday. He tossed six scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out seven. He used only 73 pitches.
Peters is now 6-4 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.94. He is tied for second in the GLIAC in strikeouts with 64.
Peters is the second AU pitcher to win the conference weekly honors after sophomore Chance Hitchcock picked up the award on March 12. Senior outfielder Connor Barleben was named the GLIAC Player of the Week on April 9.
The Eagles (26-12, 13-7 GLIAC), winners of 17 of their last 21, took three of four games from the Pride last weekend and will head to Ohio Dominican on Wednesday for a key in-region tilt in Columbus. Ashland will then play a four-game set at Davenport, which sits a game behind the Eagles for second place in the GLIAC standings.
