Mansfield Police Auxiliary Officer Awarded State Honor

The Mansfield Division of Police is proud to announce that Auxiliary Officer Ron Puff was awarded the Ohio Crime Prevention Association’s (OCPA) 2018 “Volunteer In Policing Award”, earlier today in Dublin, Ohio at their annual conference. Auxiliary Officer Puff was one of 10 volunteer recipients from across the state to receive this award. The Ohio Crime Prevention Association's primary mission is to promote safety throughout local communities by providing sound crime prevention training and strategies. OCPA understands the important role local civic volunteer’s play and finds value in recognizing their efforts.

It is in acknowledgement of Ron’s commitment to those principles and the volunteer hours he so selflessly donates to the Mansfield Division of Police as well as other local agencies, that he was awarded this honor. Since 2007, Auxiliary Officer Puff has logged over 300 volunteer hours each year by participating in numerous community events including “Downtown Cruise-In”, “FOP Youth Olympics”, “PAL Mentoring”, “Spread the (Blue) Light”, the A.C.E program, and Neighborhood Watch events. In addition, he has taught numerous self-defense classes over the years.

Ron became a volunteer Auxiliary Officer with Mansfield Division of Police in 2011. The Auxiliary Officer position is a non-sworn, civilian volunteer position that is assigned to the Division’s Neighborhood Impact Section (community policing) to assist with various community, youth events, and programs.

Much of Auxiliary Officer Puff’s time has been spent volunteering with the Division’s very successful youth Explorer Unit. He has been instrumental in developing Explorer policies and implementing training which has helped guide this award winning program to several top 3 finishes in state competitions, often besting larger Explorer Units across the state.

Auxiliary Officer Puff’s community outreach does not end at the law enforcement level. Over the years he has volunteered his skills at the historic Ohio State Reformatory where he has served as a tour guide and has assisted with maintenance and volunteer management. He is often seen supporting Ohio’s citizens and law enforcement at numerous community events.

The Mansfield Division of Police is grateful for Auxiliary Officer Puff’s duty to serve the citizens and youth of this community and would like to extend our congratulations to Ron on receiving this award recognition.
