JCPenney Celebrating 100 years: 1st Store Opened in Mansfield (1918)

The JCPenney department store is celebrating 100 years in business. Founder James Cash Penney opened his first store right here in Mansfield, Ohio on April 13th, 1918 on West 3rd street. The company will celebrate that milestone next Friday, April 13th, at the current store located at the Richland Mall in Ontario. The store is planning giveaways to customers and will have local officials on to celebrate 100 years.  

The Mansfield store was one of 20 stores across the country that opened in the spring of 1918. JCPenney has approximately 870 stores in the US and Puerto Rico, which includes 35 stores here in Ohio.

A Ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. and will include special guests like the mayor of Ontario and JCPenney store General Manager.
