The city of Shelby will continue on with its sanitary sewer project, after a 3 to 2 vote by council this week. RichlandSource.com reports there are 24 homes that have septic failures on West Main and need to be addressed.
The total cost of project is just over $528,400, in which the city will cover just under 28% or $147,000. The rest of the cost, $380,000, will go to the residents of the 24 properties over 10 years, which is about $15,000 each. The city is getting a grant that can help those home owners to help pay some of the cost.
