Want to be an official weather spotter? Come to SKYWARN training and learn how to
•Recognize storm & cloud elements.
•Understand thunderstorm development & severity.
•Forecast severe storms.
•Anticipate storm motion, intensity & severity based on cloud structure.
•Detail tornado formation.
•Stay informed using the National Weather Service’s warning system.
•Be an official SKYWARE weather spotter.

Being a storm spotter not only means dedication, but also training.  Each spring the Cleveland office of the National Weather Service trains members of police & Fire Department, Emergency Management Officials, Amateur Radio operators and weather interested citizens on spotting techniques.  The training is coordinated and taught by a local group (Richland County Skywarn), NWS Trained instructors. The goal of the training is not just to recognize tornadoes, but to have some understanding of storm structure, which in turn better prepares the spotter for the extreme and unusual circumstances.
