Shelby Town Hall Meeting Thursday for School Bond Issue
Shelby school will host a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, March 22nd to discuss facility plans for the schools bond issue on the upcoming May ballot. The Town Hall meeting will take place at Dowds Elementary at 6:30 pm. The 4.6 mill bond issue is for 34 years and would build a new Pre K through 8th grade building and football stadium to be constructed near the current track.
Shelby Superintendent Tim Tarvin says the Skiles Field, Shelby's football stadium, is slow falling apart and needs replaced. Voters turned it down this past fall, with 58% saying no. Tarvin says some changes have been made to this plan, which will include 400 more parking spaces. The cost to a home owner ($100,000) would be $160 per year. The total cost of the project is $41.4 million, but will cost taxpayers only $18.8 million, which is 45% of the cost.
