Stumbo and Miller to Enter Hall of Excellence

The North Central State College Foundation has named two honorees to the 2018 Hall of Excellence Awards, which will be held Friday, April 13th at the Kehoe Center in Shelby. This year the college will recognize Doc Stumbo and Michael Miller at the event.

The Hall of Excellence Class of 2018

Doc Stumbo was born in Mingo County, West Virginia. After serving in Vietnam, he moved to Ohio and has been a resident of Richland County for more than 60 years. He retired from General Motors, serving as Public Relations liaison for both the plant and the United Auto Workers in the Mansfield area. For the past 17 years, Doc has been working in Public Relations for Graham AutoMall. He has served on more than 20 boards, including: The Salvation Army, CACY, Toy Time, United Way, Richland County Home, The Center, Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, Richland County Health Department, the Richland County Mental Health Board and others. Stumbo was instrumental in organizing the Make a Difference Food Drive for area food pantries, and Dash to the Goal in partnership with United Way.

Michael Miller was a child prodigy in both voice and performance. He appeared on Broadway at a young age, and performed in multiple productions in New York and throughout the United States. Mike’s passion for entertainment led him to Los Angeles, where he worked as both a performer and as a technician on numerous television shows, movies and live theater productions. He moved back to Mansfield, and took over the family business from his father and uncle. Miller’s Diamond Jewelry continues to serve local residents from its location on Mansfield’s south side. In addition, after serving on the Board for the Renaissance Theater for years, he accepted the position of President and Chief Executive, shepherding the institution back to financial health while working to refurbish the theater décor and infrastructure. Miller helped lead numerous fundraising efforts to maintain and grow the activities of the Renaissance, including the expansion of arts education for area youth, which now touches thousands of students from throughout the region each year.

The Hall of Excellence Awards

In 2016, The North Central State College Foundation updated the Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame to provide the opportunity to recognize a broader range of honorees who have affected the region through their leadership.

In addition to the induction ceremony, this year The Hall of Excellence will serve as the kickoff of the 50th Anniversary for North Central State College. At this years event the five presidents who have served will be recognized: Henry Fallerius, Byron Kee, Ronald Abrams, Donald Plotts, and Dorey Diab.
