Big Blow – Indians Place Andrew Miller and Danny Salazar on DL
The Cleveland Indians today placed LHP ANDREW MILLER on the 10-day Disabled List with a patellar tendonitis in his right knee and RHP DANNY SALAZAR on the 10-day D.L. with right elbow inflammation (retroactive to August 21).
Miller begins his second stint on the disabled list this month after spending 16 days, August 2-16, on the D.L. with a similar ailment. So far this season he owns a record of 4-3 with 2 saves and a 1.65 ERA in 48 relief outings (54.2IP, 26H, 10ER, 17BB, 79SO, .139 avg). He currently owns the 2nd-lowest relief ERA and 4th-lowest relief batting average in the American League to date.
Salazar also is beginning his second stint on the disabled list in 2017, spending nearly seven weeks on the disabled from June 4-July 21 with right shoulder soreness. So far this season he is 5-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 18 games/16 starts (92.0IP, 89H, 44ER, 38BB, 128SO, .254 avg). Over his six second half starts since returning from the D.L. he is 2-1 with a 2.68 ERA (37.0IP, 30H, 11ER, 10BB, 41SO, .221 avg).
Armstrong begins his seventh stint with Cleveland in 2017, posting a relief mark of 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA over 18 outings (21.1IP, 20H, 10ER, 9BB, 18SO, .238 avg). Around his time in Cleveland he has posted a record of 1-1 with 10 saves and a 2.96 ERA in 26 relief appearances for AAA Columbus (27.1IP, 25H, 9R/ER, 10BB, 33SO, .240 avg). He has limited right-handed Triple-A hitters to a .173 (9-52) average against and an overall mark of .208 (11-53) with runners on base.
Yandy is beginning his third stint with Cleveland this season, his first since May 8-15. Around his tenure in Cleveland, he has batted .350 (108-309) in Columbus with 56 runs, 17 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR & 33 RBI in 85 games (.454/.460/.914). He currently leads in the International League in on-base pct. (.454) and batting average and is third in OPS (.914) and tied for sixth in walks (60). He has batted .371 (33-89) off LHP and has hit .321 (16-57) with runners on base. With the Clippers he has appeared in 42 games in third base, 21 games in left field, 9 games in right field and 1 game at second base. With Cleveland he is batting .203 (13-64) with 1 2B and 3 RBI in 18 games.
