North Central State College students named to All-Ohio Academic Team

Two North Central State College students have been named to the third-team 2017 All-Ohio Academic Team.

The All-Ohio Academic Team program provides statewide recognition and cash scholarships to outstanding two-year college students.  Nominees must have a grade-point average of at least 3.50.

Keturah Crouch and Ma’Tia Porter, both of Mansfield, were honored at a ceremony at the Ohio State House on April 20, 2017.  Crouch, who is also the 2016 NC State College Student of the Year, is currently studying business administration.  She began her college career in the College-Now business program at North Central State College. She is part of the Beta Theta Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at North Central State College. Crouch will graduate on May 12, 2017, and plans to continue her education this fall to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Porter, who is the 2016 Student of the Year runner-up, is studying graphic design.  She works as a student worker for TRIO Student Support Services and as an Admissions Ambassador at NC State College. She is also part of the Beta Theta Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society.  She will graduate in December 2017.  Porter will continue her education at Kent State University to obtain her bachelor’s degree in graphic design.  Her goal is to one day work for a fashion magazine company.

When Porter first heard about the honor, she was completely surprised, “At first I didn’t think I was going to get it.  I had my doubts.  I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard I won Student of the Year runner-up!  I am still in shock!”

Both Crouch and Porter were first nominated to the All-USA Academic Team.  Students chosen were then ranked for the first, second, and third teams based on factors such as number of credit hours completed, community service, college involvement, student essay, and GPA. Team members receive scholarships, certificates, pins and commemorative medallions.  Scholarships range from $250 to $1,000.
