Pioneer names Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course 2017 Business Partner of the Year

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was named the 2017 Ralph Phillips Business Partner of the Year at the 12th annual awards dinner at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby on Wednesday, March 22.

This prestigious award is given to an area business that has demonstrated support for Pioneer and its programs, students and alumni. It was renamed in 2010 in honor of the late Ralph Phillips, President and Owner of Phillips Manufacturing and Tower Company, the first recipient of the award. The criteria for this award are designed around the attributes we most admired in Mr. Phillips.

Dave Such, Auto Technologies lab instructor, nominated Kim Green, Kevin Savoree, Mike Morissey, Dave Schwall and Sonny Gee of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Dave Schwall, Operations Manager, is a Pioneer Auto Technologies graduate. Schwall is in charge of maintaining the fleet of cars for the Mid-Ohio Driving School. Sonny Gee, Mid-Ohio School Director is also a Pioneer graduate and an Outstanding Alumnus of Pioneer. Gee serves on the Advisory Committee for Auto Technologies as well. Mid-Ohio has served as a Pioneer Community Service Day job site for several years and will be hosting students again April 21. In 2015 Gee and Mid-Ohio donated two Honda Acura TSX cars from the driving school for use in the Auto Technologies lab for training.

Schwall recorded a video presentation with Media Communications lab students to broadcast on PNN. He discussed the interviewing and employment process at Mid-Ohio. Mid-Ohio also utilized the services of Pioneer’s Engineering Design Technology lab to survey their campgrounds for use in developing a reservation system for campers.

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is located in Morrow County just outside of Lexington, Ohio.
