Mansfield City Council votes 7-1 against Chicken Ordinance

Mansfield City Council Tuesday night voted 7-1 against the Chicken Ordinance, which would have allowed residents to raise chickens within the city limits.

City Councilman Cliff Mears says that this discussion over chickens has gone on for over a year and council has heard comments for both those in favor and against. Some of the arguments against were that it could hurt  their property value, concerns over smell and predators with chickens being raised in the city. Those in favor of raising chickens are planning on revising the legislation and coming back to city council to submit another proposal to raise backyard chickens in Mansfield.
