Mansfield City Finances Tight, but Stable for 2017
Mansfield City Council says that the city finances will be tight for 2017, but will be stable. City Councilman Cliff Mears says the 2017 budget is $123 million, which includes 87 Police officers and 90 fire fighters. Health Insurance costs continue to rise and were $7.4 million in 2016. This year, that cost will rise by nearly $1 million to $8.4 million.
Mears says that despite those rising costs, they are not compromising services to the citizens. The City has a Budget Stabilization Fund, which will have nearly $5 million in it by years end. Mears says this fund is just like a savings account and was established in the event that a major employer leaves town or damage is done by a flood or tornado. This is so, the city can continue to provide all of its services to its residents, if something unfortunate was so happen.
