Tragic news out of Ashland County.
A Mapleton High School student, who collapsed on the football field during Homecoming festivities prior to Friday's game, has passed away.
According to RichlandSource.com, the female student, a senior, suffered a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital. The Mapleton vs South Central Football game was suspended at halftime, when the district learned the student had died.
Mapleton Superintendent, Matt Smith, asked for students to gather on the field. School Districts all across the region have reached out and shared, via social media, their thoughts and prayers are with the entire Mapleton community.
