The storms that hit Richland County, and the Madison area last Saturday, are believed to be what is known as a microburst.
Richland County EMA Director, Rebecca Owens, made the announcement after information was passed on to the national weather service in Cleveland. A microburst can have wind speeds of up to 100 MPH, cover 2 or 3 miles and last up to 15 minutes in duration.
A total of 60 home owners reported property damaged, along with 6 businesses and many trees and power lines came down during the storms in the early morning hours of Saturday.
