The Richland County Coroner's Office has handled a record number of cases this year and due to that has requested additional funding.
According to RichlandSource.com, an extra $50,000 was asked because of the number of autopsies in 2022. In total, the Richland County Coroner's Office has handled 500 cases this year and had a budget of just over $192,000, but Offices request for 2023 is much higher at $360,000.
Administrative Assistant Randi Ritchie said it has been an exhaustive year for autopsies and she has never seen anything like it in her 10 years.
