In Shelby, close to 500 employees are on strike at ArcelorMittal, according to RichlandSource.com.
This comes after the company and the United Steel Workers Union could not come to an agreement on a contract. One of the issues for the workers is the 7 day, 56 hour work week. Steel Workers Union Representative said they are tired and just want guaranteed time off. He went on to say they are not asking for anything out of the norm, just the weekend off. Healthcare costs are also another topic in the contract talks and said negotiations are moving in a positive direction.
