COVID-19: Lexington Schools To Shift To Remote Learning For Two Weeks

The Lexington School District is moving to remote learning for a two week period starting on Sept 7th.

Superintendent Jeremy Secrist said the reason because general illness and COVID-19 related illness and absences.

The plan is to finish out this week and hopes to not have to use a calamity day, but will monitor daily.

Lexington would resume in-person learning then on Sept 20th.

Lexington School Community,

We have been honored to have your students back in our classrooms through our first three weeks of school. Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in symptomatic students being sent home from school, and have an increase in general illnesses, and COVID related illness and absences. Due to staff health and lack of substitutes, Lexington Local Schools will be moving to remote learning for a 2-week period beginning Tuesday, September 7th through Friday, September 17th. In-person classes will resume on Monday, September 20th.

It is our hope that the two weeks of remote learning will allow staff, and students, time to recover from any illness so we may continue utilizing our great staff to provide in-person learning, safely transport your students, and continue to offer breakfast and lunch. We are still asking families to help keep our schools healthy by allowing symptomatic students to stay home. We will work with families and students on make-up work.

Principals and teachers will begin discussing remote learning with our students to prepare them for the two week period, and to ensure that students are prepared to be successful with this instruction. The school will also continue to provide meals to students during this period. More information on pick-up procedures will be made available later in the week.

It is our hope to finish this week in-person, but we will monitor the staff and student absences daily in hopes of not having to use a calamity day this week. Currently, we are allowing athletics and activities to continue, but the health of our students and coaches will be monitored daily.

Please feel free to contact the Superintendent’s office or individual school buildings with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Secrist

Superintendent
