June 16th at approximately 6:14PM the Mansfield Division of Police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Johns Avenue with a victim who was shot multiple times. The 22-year-old male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and his condition is not known at this time. While investigating the shooting, a suspect description was given to officers of a male subject. A short time later, a Mansfield Police Officer observed a subject operating a vehicle matching the description of the suspected shooter from Johns Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of W. 3rd Street and Sycamore Avenue at which time the vehicle fled from the officer and a pursuit ensued.
The 20-year-old suspect driver fled on foot from the vehicle in the 600 block of W. 4th Street at which time a foot pursuit ensued. The officer caught up to the suspect and during the ensuing struggle, the suspect pulled a gun at which time the officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated. The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
This is the information gathered during this initial phase of the investigation and there is no additional information to release at this time. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Ohio BCI) has been requested to conduct the investigation into the officer involved shooting. The officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave per Division policy.
The officer involved is Officer Jordan Moore who joined the Mansfield Division of Police on July 9th , 2018. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending notification to family
