Jackson Township – Troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US Route 42 near Mile Post 19 in Ashland County. A pedestrian was in the left lane of southbound US Route 42 when he was struck by a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The pedestrian, Brett Michael Lycans, 30 years old, of West Salem, OH, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ashland County Coroner’s office. The driver of the Hyundai, Michael Eugene Cottrill Jr., 20 years old, of Shelby, OH, was not injured and remained on scene.US Route 42 was closed for approximately 3 hours. Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: The Ashland County Coroner’s office. The crash remains under investigation, however, the driver of the Hyundai is not considered at fault. Impairment of the pedestrian is believed to be a possible factor.
