Subject: Fatal Crash---State Route 13 and Piper Road
The Mansfield Division of Police is investigating a fatal crash which occurred earlier this afternoon at 12:10PM at the intersection of State Route 13 (N. Main Street) and Piper Road. The crash involved a 2020 Jeep Wrangler which was traveling westbound on Piper Road and a 2006 Sterling commercial dump truck which was traveling northbound on State Route 13. Preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep traveled into the path of the dump truck which then struck the driver’s side of the Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep, a 19-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital by the Mansfield Fire Department where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the dump truck, a 59-year-old male, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A Crash Reconstructionist from the Mansfield Police Traffic Section is currently on scene, being assisted by the Mansfield Police Department’s Un-manned Aerial System (UAS/DRONE) and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
We are asking that motorists find alternative routes and try to avoid traveling in this area for the next few hours. Any additional information will be released at a later date
