Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash in Wayne County

Paint Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 8:55 p.m. on Western Road, in Paint Township, in Wayne County.

The crash involved a silver 2003 Toyota Matrix driven by a juvenile, age 16, of Apple Creek, Ohio.

Initial investigation revealed the Toyota was eastbound on Western Road. The Toyota traveled off the left edge of the roadway and the driver over corrected to the right. The Toyota continued off the right side of the roadway striking two trees. The Toyota struck the second tree on the driver’s side and came to rest in a yard.

The 16 year old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner.

Paint Township Fire Department, Kidron Fire Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and Troopers were on scene to assist.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash. The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
