The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library will hosts its annual Black History Celebration on Saturday, February 2, 2019 with festivities running from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. here will be music, displays, food and a craft for the kids. All food and entertainment are FREE and open to the public.
Main stage entertainment highlights include Praise Dance, African Dance, Drumming and Storytelling, Rap, Gospel, and R&B Funk.
Food highlights include a Pound Cake and/or Dressing (stuffing) contest and soul food in the Cafe' presented by Miss Lil's Fish Catering served in the Community Room of the Library, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded in each category of the pound cake and dressings contests.
Following is a schedule of Black History Celebration events:
- 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.: The Marketplace presenting arts & crafts for sale by local artisans, and displays with information by local agencies.
- 11:00 a.m.: Jesus Jewels, a praise dance troupe from Shiloh Baptist Church, composed of members age 12 and younger.
- 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.: Crafts for Kids in the Children's Department.
- 11:30 a.m.: Is Sid and Advance Party - presenting African dance, drumming, poetry and storytelling.
- Noon until 2:00 p.m.: soul Food @ The Cafe'in the Community Room.
- 12:30 p.m.: AlliCat - Mansfield's own Allison Lindsay
- 1:15 p.m.: the Male chorus from New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church
- 2:00 p.m.: Alter Ego, Mansfield's own R&G funk band.
