February 3rd Now Officially “Charles Follis Day”

February 3rd, will now be officially known as “Charles Follis Day”.  Charles Follis is the first African American Professional Football Player, who played in Shelby. State Representative Mark Romanchuk introduced the bill to honor Follis, who played for the Shelby Blues from 1902 to 1906. “Follis Field”, the home of the Wooster Generals Football Field, is named in honor of Charles Follis. Branch Rickey, who signed Jackie Robinson in 1947, was a teammate of Charles Follis in Shelby back in the early 1900’s.
