Mansfield Area Election News

Richland County saw a 21% voter turnout Tuesday.   Ashland County's turnout was 16.3%.

CANDIDATES

In a 3-way Republican primary for Richland County Commissioner, Incumbent, Marilyn John finished on top with a narrow win over Dale Hulit.  The margin was less than 1- percent. John will face uncontested Democrat, Rebecca Hergatt, in the fall.  

*In a crowded Primary for the 12th District Congressional seat vacated by Pat Tiberi (Tee – berry), Democrat Danny O’Conner and Republican Troy Balderson will meet in the August Special election, AND in the November General Election. 

In the 7th Congressional District incumbent –Bob Gibbs won the republican runoff, with Democrat Ken Harbaugh also advancing; each took nearly 80% of the votes in their respective primaries.

ISSUES

Richland County Voters once again supported Day Spring; The County Home.  The point-8 mill levy passed with 73.6 % in favor.

Shelby Voters renewed the roads and sidewalks income tax with nearly 57 %, 

While the additional 4.6mil Shelby School levy, for new facilities, failed considerably with 62% saying no.  

Shelby voters also said Yes to Sunday Sales at the Downtown  Vault Wine Bar. 

Cass Township voters turned down the addition millage for current expenses, 134 to 44.

In Ashland County, both Lake and Montgomery Townships passed levies for Roads and Bridges,   while Milton Township approved money for Fire Protection .
