The Cleveland Indians had an off day on Thursday and will open a 4-game series on Friday night in Kansas City.
The Royals are in first place and have played well in the first month of the season.
The Tribe split a rain-shortened two game series with the White Sox. KC did the same thing with Detroit.
The Indians are 3-2 so far on the road trip and are currently 4th in the A.L. Central, but only 3 games back of 1st place KC.
Last year (2012), the Tribe was 8-10 versus the Royals.
KC has good starting pitching and anytime you get that, you have a chance to win.
Friday's Pitching Matchup
(Cle) Scott Kazmir (0-0, 16.20 ERA) vs (KC) Ervin Santana (2-1, 2.48 ERA)
Kazmir made his first start in the big leagues in two years on Saturday, he got a no decision in 3.1 IP, giving up 6 ER, but the Indians offense scored 19 runs in the win over Houston.
Santana has been good this season, but lifetime against the Tribe his numbers are not great in 14 starts (2-8, 4.71 ERA) - BUT -------------> Santana, when he played for the LAA, threw a no-hitters against the Tribe at Progressive Field (July 27th, 2011).
Keys to a Win
Cleveland's offense has either exploded and scored a lot of runs or has been quiet ( All or Nothing) - They have to win close games, even when they don't score a lot.
Starting pitching has been better, but needs to be really good this weekend against KC, who's starters have been very good.
A sweep by the Tribe and they could be in first place come Monday..... but the other way around could really hurt the Indians heading into the 2nd month of the year.
